The Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, the highest recognition for live classical music-making in the UK, were presented on Thursday 15 May 2008 at a dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, London. The Awards are in association with BBC Radio 3The presentations were made by the much loved Irish mezzo-soprano Ann Murray DBE and the awards were hosted by BBC Radio 3's Petroc Trelawny and Sara Mohr-Pietsch.
Richard Holloway, Chairman of Sistema Scotland, the project inspired by the extraordinary work being done with young people and youth orchestras and speakers in Venezuela, was the evening's speaker. By growing orchestras in areas of deprivation, Sistema Scotland aims to transform children's lives with music, empower communities and build orchestras for the future. Listen to the speech
