This year the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards recognised a particularly invigorating period for live classical music in the UK, with a wave of outstanding new conducting, performing and composing talent featuring in the shortlists.

The announcement of the shortlisted nominations was made online and live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.

The annual RPS Music Awards are the UK’s most prestigious recognition of achievement in the field of live classical music.  Awards, in thirteen categories, are decided by independent panels with a fourteenth award chosen by the listeners of BBC Radio 3.  The awards honour musicians, composers, writers, broadcasters and inspirational arts organisations from the UK and abroad, and this year celebrated their achievements during 2007.

The winners of the Awards were announced on 15 May 2008 at a dinner at the Dorchester Hotel.
