Jonathan Harvey:…towards a pure land. The panel admired this ambitious attempt to portray the Buddhist vision of a blissful afterlife. The music makes delicate yet powerfully suggestive use of unusual sonorities, and the hidden string ensemble created a very beautiful metaphor for eternal harmony, which even the devout atheists among the panel members found moving.
